User Conference Postponement

Given the stress and upheaval caused by Hurricane Harvey, we have decided to err on the side of caution and postpone the next GOM3 user conference for a few months. Although Houston is already showing great resilience, we want to be sure that the most important concerns take priority.

Fortunately, BHP has been kind enough to continue to host the 12th Annual User Conference, which will now be held on Thursday, February 15, 2018 at their offices in Houston. The registration page will remain available, and we will keep the registrations for those of you who have already signed up.

Along those lines, the Custom Map in GOMsmart now includes data on FEMA evacuation routes and hospitals/medical centers. These are part of the GOM Storms service, though they are not visible by default - you will need to expand the table-of-contents and check the box next to those to make them appear in the map. This is a small addition, but hopefully a helpful one if there are more issues related to upcoming storms.

GOM3/GOMsmart Training

Although the conference has been pushed back, the next TeachMeGIS class is coming up soon. The next workshop will be held on Wednesday, October 11, 2017 at their training center in west Houston. The class, Analyzing Petroleum Data in the Gulf of Mexico with GOM3, works through GOMsmart, goes through ArcGIS from simple workflows to complicated exercises, including an introduction to 3-D GIS. An outline of the class is available here (PDF) and registration can be completed at the TeachMeGIS website, www.teachmegis.com.
