First of all, GOMsmart finally has its SSL protocol set, so any issues accessing the site are now resolved. That has allowed us to deploy the new version of the Main Map, which, in its first iteration, will look pretty similar at first glance. Behind-the-scenes there are many changes that allow for some nice features. First, the format of the data is different and now renders in the browser which means sharper lines and labels, though the placement is different to optimize the rendering speed. It also means that the map is not limited to a certain size on screen; it can fill your monitor.
Most of the controls have been moved to smaller buttons on the right side of the map. Navigating in the map is exactly the same and when clicking on the map, the area of the 'Hotlink' will be displayed as a circle that makes it a little clearer to see what is being identified, especially on a phone.
And of course, it is still possible to make more data visible, check out the symbology, change basemaps and send the map to a PDF or image file for printing.
The data and printing is now being hosted in ArcGIS. And the new infrastructure will expand what is possible in the future, though as always we would like your feedback on that future. The skies the limit, so don't be afraid to go out on a limb. Contact Tony Dupont at tony@earthsci.com with suggestions.
